چکیده

I will describe recent joint work with Arkady Vaintrob on Fan-JarvisRuan theory, which is an analog of Gromov-Witten theory where a target space is replaced by a quasihomogeneous isolated hypersurface singularity. In the case of simple singularities of type A it corresponds to the intersection theory on the moduli space of higher spin curves, and constitutes a framework for the famous Witten conjectures, proved by Kontsevich for A_1-singularity and by FaberShadrin-Zvonkine in general. I will sketch the algebro-geometric construction of the relevant cohomological field theory based on the theory of matrix factorizations. The crucial construction of an analog of the virtual fundamental class involves derived categories of matrix factorizations in a global setting.

Algebraic Geometry and Geometric Modeling: Insight and Computation

The conventional wisdom expressed at several recent joint conferences and workshops on algebraic geometry and geometric modeling – Algebraic Geometry and Geometric Modeling 2002, Vilnius, Lithuania, The MSRI Workshop on Real Algebraic Geometry in Applications, Berkeley, 2004, and Algebraic Geometry and Geometric Modeling 2004, Nice, France – is that algebraic geometry has much to offer geometri...

Convex Extensions of Partially Ordered Rings

This series of lectures is about algebraic aspects of real algebraic geometry. Partially ordered rings (porings) occur very naturally in real algebraic geometry, as well as in other branches of mathematics. There is a rich classical theory of porings (the beginnings dating back to the 1930s and 1940s). To a large extent it was inspired by the study of rings of continuous functions in analysis a...

Real Spectrum and the Abstract Positivstellensatz

Algebraic geometry emerged from the study of subsets of C defined by polynomial equations, namely algebraic sets. Parallel to this, real algebraic geometry emerged from studying subsets of R defined by polynomial equations and inequalities, namely semi-algebraic sets. Like algebraic geometry, classical methods in real algebraic geometry provided useful but limited intuition on the relationship ...

Algebraic Geometry over Lie Algebras

What is algebraic geometry over algebraic systems? Many important relations between elements of a given algebraic system A can be expressed by systems of equations over A. The solution sets of such systems are called algebraic sets over A. Algebraic sets over A form a category, if we take for morphisms polynomial functions in the sense of Definition 6.1 below. As a discipline, algebraic geometr...

SMSTC (2012/13) Geometry and Topology LECTURE NOTES 5: Surfaces in Algebraic Geometry

January 23, 2013 Frances Kirwan’s book Complex algebraic curves is an excellent introduction to complex algebraic curves (see [5]). Whenever possible I have included a page reference to the book, in the form [5]. Another beautiful book on this subject is Rick Miranda’s book Algebraic curves and Riemann surfaces (see [6]). To get a feeling what is higher-dimensional complex algebraic geometry, s...
